10 02 2009

Congratulations to Wayne Severin, the winner of the 2009 Biglands and Doyle Trophy.  This annual Australia Day event, run by Rip Van Velsen, is a knockout series in which entrants are randomly put into crews beginning with eights and ending with a single scull.  Congratulations also to the runner-up, Alex Brook, a member of our senior women’s squad, for her strong and courageous performance in the final.  A great day was had by the large numbers of club members and their families who attended despite the heat.

Union of Master Rowers time trials

19 01 2009

On Sunday 18 Jan 2009 the Port Adelaide Rowing Club hosted about 100 people and their boats for the UMR 5.5 km time trials.  A colourful flotilla of eights, fours, quads and pairs followed a huge ship down river to  the old quarantine station on a beautiful clear sunny morning on calm blue-green water.  Competing clubs were Port Adelaide, Goolwa, Riverside and Torrens.

The best time for the 5.5 km was achieved by the champion Port Adelaide masters’ men’s crew ((cox) Vicky, (stroke) Dave, Paul, Wayne, Snook, Kevin, Phil, John, Bruce) in its first outing since the Head of the Yarra, with a time of 18 minutes 14 seconds.  Other results are available through the Union ( douglas.raymond@bigpond.com).

Thanks to Doug Raymond, President of the UMR, and Ann Douglas (UMR and PARC) for this great day.  Also thanks to our Vicky Knight for the delicious lunch!
