South Australian Masters State Championships, 18 April 2009

A warm day with mostly mild calm water and very little wind, just building slightly for the afternoon.  Port Adelaide did very well, given our small number of entries per event compared to other clubs.

  • Peter H and Colin are the State Champions for the masters men’s coxless pair
  • Dave, Phil, Aaron and Tommy (coxed by Vicky) are the State Champion for the masters men’s coxed quad scull
  • Helen was the runner-up for State Champion in the masters women’s single scull
  • Chilli and Helen were the runners-up for State Champions in the masters women’s coxless pair
  • Chilli and Helen were the runners-up for State Champions in the masters women’s double scull
  • Bruce, John J, Kevin, Aaron, Tommy, Sepps, Paul and Dave (coxed by Vicky) were the runners-up for State Champions in the masters men’s eight

Check out the SARA website for their excellent times.

And so endeth the season.

Head of River Qualifying Regatta, 28 March 2009

  • Bruce, John, Kevin and Paul, with Vicky coxing, winning the masters men’s coxed four

Some excellent races for:

  • Aaron and Tommy coming a close second in the first grade men’s double scull
  • Luke, Scott, Aaron and Tommy coming a close second in the first grade men’s quad scull
  • Jane and Hannah coming a close second in the first grade women’s double scull

Second Grade Championships, 21 March 2009

A mild morning and a savage afternoon at West Lakes with strong winds and white caps. However, we achieved some wonderful results:

  • Hannah and Jane won the second  grade championship women’s double scull by a convincing 26 seconds!  A great win after months of hard training
  • Wayne and Snook won the second grade championship men’s coxless pair – a remarkable achievement over much, much younger crews
  • Wayne and Snook won the masters men’s pairs final
  • Helen and Chilli won the masters women’s double scull in very fast time
  • Bruce, John, Phil, Aaron, Snook, Wayne, Paul and Dave, coxed by Vicky, won the masters men’s eight, overcoming the unbeatable Pembroke crew by almost 8 seconds

 Other good efforts were:

  • John, Phil, Paul and Dave, coxed by Vicky, coming a close second in the male masters quad final
  • Paul and Dave coming a very good second in the male masters double scull final
  • Luke, Scott, Aaron and Tommy coming an extremely close second to Adelaide (margin of 0.89 secs) in the second grade men’s coxless quad final

Pembroke Schools State Championships, 14 March 2009

27 03 2009

Our senior men and women and our junior girls competed.

We had one win:

  • Hannah and Jane won the second grade women’s double scull

and these good efforts:

  • Lauren and Claire each coming third in their respective divisions of the schoolgirl Year 9 single scull
  • Luke, Scott, Aaron and Tommy coming third in the second grade men’s quad scull, only six seconds off a win.

All good preparation for  the second grade championships next week.
